Biography

Tomasz Kowalski has spent two decades tracing why packets take the paths they do. His current work on low-latency edge routing grew out of a sabbatical spent embedded with a regional ISP's engineering team.

Low-Latency Routing for Edge Networks

Edge computing only pays off if the network gets requests to the nearest capable node fast enough. This project evaluates routing strategies against real regional traffic traces, in partnership with a local internet service provider that supplied anonymized data for testing.

Computer Networks explains how information actually travels between machines: addressing, routing, reliability, and the layered design that lets the internet keep working as it scales. Labs use packet capture tools so students see the protocols they're studying in real traffic.
